A Winter Reminder

PLACEMENT OF PAVEMENT MARKERS FOR SNOWY MONTHS

TIPS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Question? Can a resident use temporary stakes or markers
to designate their property?

Answer- Yes, you can! A property owner or resident can place such a marker, but it must be in certain places. The easiest way to explain is to place a yardstick at the edge of the pavement, and where the end of the yardstick lies is a good spot to place. These markers can be purchased at your local hardware store.

  • Only break-away markers will be permitted
  • Markers must not be placed closer than three (3) feet from the edge of the blacktop
  • Markers must not be placed closer than ten (10) feet from each other
  • Markers cannot have a red or orange colored reflector (but markers can be made of orange material) – see Wisconsin State Statute below

Wis State Statute 346.41(3) No person shall place or maintain, or allow to be displayed any red or amber reflector within the limits of the highway boundaries at or near the entrance to a private road or driveway. The use of blue reflectors is permitted provided there is no disapproval by the highway authority in charge of maintenance of the highway.

Markers not following the above guidelines may be removed from their location by a Town Crew Member and notified with a tag indicating correct placement. A subsequent failure to follow the above guidelines after two (2) notices will be subject to removal by the Town of Grand Rapids and/or possible forfeiture as per Road Ordinance No. 19 and Schedule of Fees
and Forfeitures Ordinance 39.

In the use of temporary snow markers, the residents understand that the Town of Grand Rapids will not be responsible or liable for breakage or replacement of said markers.
